The project
A home builder came to us with a clean white mark and wanted maximum contrast. We painted the
base black rather than using ebony stain, which is a distinction worth explaining.
Ebony is a stain, so the grain still shows through and the surface has movement in it. Black
paint is flat and even, and the grain disappears. For a modern builder brand, flat black is
usually right. For something more rustic or heritage, ebony keeps the wood visible. Same
color, completely different feel, and it is worth deciding deliberately rather than by
default.
What builders and developers need from a sign
- High contrast. These logos are usually seen quickly, on a site office or in
a showroom with a lot going on. - Durable enough for a working environment. Site offices are dusty. Sealed
surfaces wipe clean. - Scalable across locations. Head office, showroom, site hoarding and display
home often all need the same mark at different sizes. - Ready for a fixed date. Display homes and offices open on a schedule that
does not move.
Lead times and how to plan around them
This is where most orders go wrong, and it is entirely avoidable.

Add shipping on top, and add proof approval before any of it starts. If you have an opening
date, work backwards from it and order earlier than feels necessary. Rush options exist but the
cheapest way to get a sign on time is to start sooner.

Yes. We keep the spec and color mix on file so a repeat order matches rather than approximates.
Can it go on a site office exterior?
With an exterior clear coat, yes. Somewhere sheltered will last considerably longer than full
exposure.
