A franchise signage program has one requirement single location businesses
never face: the sign in Tacoma has to match the sign in Tampa. Not resemble. Match, months apart,
still identical when a regional manager walks into both.
That is a manufacturing problem rather than a design one, and it is where most
custom signs for franchise locations quietly fall down.

The project: a contour cut logo sign for a multi location brand
We built branded signage for a franchisee operation that needed the same mark
executed more than once, in different contexts, without the pieces drifting apart.
It is a contour cut build. Rather than mounting the logo on a rectangular panel, the whole sign
is cut to the outline of the mark, blue base with white and orange lettering layered on top. For a
brand identity that gets applied across locations, a contour cut logo sign is the
stronger choice: it reads as the brand itself on the wall rather than a plaque displaying the
brand.
The part that matters for a rollout is invisible in the photo. The colors were hand mixed and
the mixes recorded, so the second sign matched the first rather than being a fresh interpretation
of the same brand guideline. Ask any sign maker whether they keep that record before you commit
to a multi site program.

What multi location brands need that single sites do not
- Repeatability. A stain and mixed color reproducible accurately months later.
- A fixed spec sheet. Size, stain, color and mounting written down so a new
franchisee orders correctly without a design conversation every time. - Predictable lead times. Rollouts have opening dates that do not move.
- Sizing that scales. The flagship has a double height lobby, the strip mall
unit has an eight foot wall, and the same design has to work at both. - Sensible economics at volume. Ten signs should not cost ten times one.
Batch pricing: why bulk custom wood signs cost less per unit
Most of what a handmade sign costs is fixed per order rather than per square foot. Design and
proofing, machine setup, color mixing, setting up and breaking down the finishing station, and
the shipping run all happen once whether you order one sign or eight.
| Order | What happens once | Effect on unit price |
|---|---|---|
| Single sign | Full setup for one piece | Standard pricing |
| 3 to 5 matched signs | One setup, one color mix, one finishing session | Meaningful reduction per sign |
| 8 to 10+ matched signs | Full batch run, consolidated shipping | Best per unit pricing |
| Repeat order, same spec | Colors and settings already on file | Faster turnaround, no re-proofing |
If you are opening several locations, or fitting out one site that needs a main logo sign plus
restroom, hours and directional signage, ask for batch pricing on bulk custom wood
signs. It is a genuinely different number.

Sizing across different location formats
- Flagship or double height lobby: 48″ x 24″ to 60″ x 36″. Few makers produce
or ship above 48 inches. We do. - Standard retail or studio unit: 36″ x 18″ to 36″ x 24″, the most common
franchise size - Compact or strip mall unit: 24″ x 12″ to 24″ x 18″
- Back of house and wayfinding: 12″ x 6″ to 18″ x 12″
Frequently asked questions about franchise signage
Can you reproduce a sign we ordered a year ago?
Yes, if we made it. The spec and color mix stay on file so a repeat order matches rather than
approximates.
Should franchisees order individually or corporate order centrally?
Both work. Central ordering gets better batch pricing and tighter consistency. If franchisees
order individually we can hold an approved spec on file so each gets the right sign without
re-approving the design.
Can you match our brand guideline colors exactly?
Colors are hand mixed against your reference rather than picked from a stock palette.
How far ahead should we order for a rollout?
Three to four weeks for a batch, more with exterior finishes. Tell us the opening schedule and we
will work to it. Signs made in one batch match more closely than signs made one at a time, and
cost less.
Do you do exterior storefront signage too?
Yes, with an exterior clear coat. Flag it at quote stage as it affects price and lead time.
Planning a rollout?
Send us the locations, the sizes you think you need and your opening dates, and we will come
back with batch pricing and a schedule. Every project starts with a free digital
proof. Made in the USA.
