A podcast studio sign has an unusual job description. It is set dressing,
brand identity and the only thing on the wall that most viewers will actually read, and it has to
do all of that inside a frame that is mostly occupied by two people talking.
It also has to not cause problems, which is where a lot of studio signage quietly fails.
The project: ebony with a three color mark
A podcast operation came to us for their set. Ebony base, blue, white and orange lettering.
Ebony was the right call for a room that gets lit for video. A dark base gives the camera
something to sit against without blowing out, and it means your key light is not bouncing off a
pale panel into the back of your subject’s head. It also holds up under the colored LED practicals
that most podcast sets use, where a light base would pick up whatever color you happen to be
running that week and shift with it.
The three color mark does the work of being interesting. On a dark base each color holds its
own value, which is exactly what you want for podcast branding signage that has
to be legible when someone watches a clip at phone size.
What podcast and recording spaces need
- Matte, always. Gloss reflects your lights straight into the lens.
- Dark or neutral base. Pale panels bounce light and shift color under LEDs.
- Legible at small sizes. Most viewers see the sign on a phone.
- Acoustically harmless. A wood sign on a treated wall is fine. Large glass or
metal panels create reflections you will hear. - Repositionable. Set layouts change more than anyone plans for.

The practical test: frame up your usual shot, hold a piece of card the size you are considering
where the sign will go, and check it reads. Most recording studio wall signs are
ordered too large for a two person setup and end up cropped in half.
Frequently asked questions about podcast studio signs
Will a wood sign cause glare on camera?
Not with a matte interior finish. Gloss finishes and acrylic are the ones that catch your key
light and throw it back.
Will it affect the room acoustically?
A wood sign is small enough that it makes no meaningful difference on a treated wall. Large hard
reflective panels are what cause problems, which is another reason to avoid big acrylic.
What size works behind two hosts?
24″ x 12″ to 36″ x 18″ for most setups. Check it against your actual framing first.
Can you cut a logo with several colors?
Yes. Each color is hand mixed and applied separately, which is why multi color marks take a
little longer to build.
Can I move it between sets?
Yes. Sawtooth hangers rehang in seconds, or ask about a cleat if you swap walls often.
