Financial advisors have a signage constraint most businesses do not: the color is often not
yours to choose. If you operate under a larger brand, the blue is the blue, and there is a
document somewhere specifying exactly which one.
That is fine. It just means the base has to be chosen to serve the logo rather than the other
way around.

The project
An agent’s office needed a reception sign carrying a corporate blue mark. We used a white wash
base rather than a natural or mid stain, and that was the whole decision.
A specified corporate blue is usually a fairly saturated mid tone. Put it on natural birch or
western oak and the warm yellow in the wood shifts how the blue reads, pulling it slightly
green. White wash cools and lightens the panel so the blue lands the way the brand guide
intends, while still letting the grain show through so it does not look like a printed board.
It is the sort of thing that is invisible when it is right and obvious when it is wrong.
What professional service offices need
- Color accuracy. If there is a brand guideline, the sign has to sit inside it.
- Restraint. Trust is the product. Nothing about the sign should feel like
retail signage. - Legibility over style. Clients are often older. Contrast matters.
- Ready for the opening. Offices open on a date, and the sign is one of the
last things anyone remembers to order.
Lead times, and how to plan backwards
This is where most orders go wrong, and it is entirely avoidable.
| Stage | Typical time | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Proof and approval | A day or two, plus your review | Nothing is cut until you approve |
| Build, interior single color | About a week | Cut, finish, cure, assemble |
| Build, multiple colors | Slightly longer | Each color mixed and coated separately |
| Exterior clear coat | Add several days | Cure time between coats, not compressible |
| Shipping | Varies by size and distance | Large signs ship freight and take longer |
Rush options exist, but the cheapest way to have a sign on the wall for opening day is to
start two or three weeks earlier than feels necessary. The one part that genuinely cannot be
hurried is cure time.
Frequently asked questions
Can you match a specified corporate color?
Yes. Colors are hand mixed against your reference. Send the brand guide value and the logo file.
Will the wood grain change how the color looks?
On the lettering, no, that is painted. On the base it can, which is why base choice matters when
the logo color is fixed. We will advise on the proof.
Can we get matching signs for several offices?
Yes, and a batch costs less per sign than separate orders. We keep the spec and color mix on
file so a later reorder matches rather than approximates.
What is a safe size for a reception wall?
Most professional offices land between 24″ x 18″ and 36″ x 24″, driven by how far back the
client stands when they walk in.
