The project: white wash with gray and orange
A law firm came to us for their lobby wall. White wash base, gray and orange lettering.
Orange is a bold choice in legal branding and it works here because of how it is used. Gray
carries the wordmark and does the heavy lifting on legibility. Orange is the accent, applied to a
small proportion of the mark. Reverse that ratio and the same two colors would read as a
franchise rather than a firm.
White wash was the right base for a large sign. On anything above about 36 inches, a dark base
becomes a significant visual mass in the room. In a lobby with white or light walls, a big ebony
panel can read as a hole. White wash keeps a large format law firm sign feeling
light at scale while still showing grain.
Sizing by viewing distance, not by wall
Measure how far back your clients actually stand. That number, not the wall dimensions, should
drive the size of your attorney lobby wall sign.

ship. For firms with genuine lobby scale, that matters, and it is worth knowing before you settle
for 36 inches because a supplier told you that was the maximum.
What large format office signage needs
- Weight aware mounting. Big signs want a French cleat or standoffs, not a
single sawtooth. - A base that does not overwhelm. Light stains stay light at scale.
- Legibility from distance. Contrast beats subtlety across a lobby.
- Freight planning. Signs above 48 inches ship differently and take longer.
